KnowledgebasePublisher 2.0.1をインストールしてみた。

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=144153 から2.0.1のパッケージをダウンロード。

解凍してできたkbpublisher_2/kb/admin/langの中のen以外のフォルダーをゴミ箱にポイ！

kbsher_publi2/install_upgradeフォルダーをデスクトップに移動。

だって、上り80kbしか出ないから、不要なファイルはアップ出来ません。光ならアップしてたかも。。。

続いて、http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=144153&package_id=164401 から日本化の言語パックをダウンロード。

解凍してできたjaフォルダをkbpublisher_2/kb¥admin/langの中へ移動させておく。

ついでにkbpublisher_2の中にkb_extraの名前で空フォルダを作成。

後は、サーバーのドキュメントルートにこの３つのフォルダーをアップロード。のろまなADSLモデムを眺めてたばこを一本。それでも終わらないのでもう一本。。。。

それでも終わらないので、次のステップへ。

サーバでMySQLを１本作成してから、phpAdminを起動。デスクトップに移動させたinstall_upgradeのフォルダの中にあるdbダンプファイルをインポートしてやる。

インポートしたのは、db_install_2.0.sql, db_patch_2.0.sql, db_upgrade_2.0_to_2.0.1.sqlの３本。他にもダンプファイルが同梱されてるけど、ファイル名のバージョン番号が違うので無視。

そうこうしているうちに、アップロードもやっと完了。

/kb/admin/config.inc.phpにdb_Server, db_Name, db_User, db_UserPasswordを書き込んでやる。

おっと忘れていた。

/kb/admin/chache, /kb_upload, /kb_extraのパーミッションを777に変更。

これで、http://www.hogehoge.com/kb/にアクセスしたら、稼働確認。メンテナンスは、http://www.hogehoge.com/kb/adminにアクセスして行う。

あとは、画面を確認しながら、/kb/admin/config.inc.phpを書き換えてやれば、そこそこ見栄えがするKnowledgebaseが完成。あとは、中身だ。。。

Google Appsを検討するユーザーに自問してほしい10の質問

まぁ、いろいろ問題はあるでしょうが。。。

しかし、言った本人のサービスは、

26日早くから、HotmailとWindows Liveサービスのユーザーの多くが自分の情報にアクセスできない状態に陥った。

去年の９月１０日に発表した10の質問の全文は下記のとおり。

今更ながら思うのは、大人げないコメント発表したもんだ。

*1. Google touts having enterprise level customers but how many “USERS” of their applications truly exist within the enterprise?

*2. Google has a history of releasing incomplete products, calling them beta software, and issuing updates on a “known only to Google” schedule – this flies in the face of what enterprises want and need in their technology partners – what is Google doing that indicates they are in lock step with customer needs?

*3. Google touts the low cost of their apps –not only price but the absence of need for hardware, storage or maintenance for Google Apps. BUT if GAPE is indeed a complement to MSFT Office, the costs actually become greater for a company as they now have two IT systems to run and manage and maintain. Doesn’t this result in increased complexity and increased costs?

*4. Google’s primary focus is on ad funded search. Their enterprise focus and now apps exist on the very fringe and in combination with other fringe services only account for 1% of the company’s revenue. What happens if Google executes poorly? Do they shut down given it will them in a minimal and short term way? Should customers trust that this won’t happen?

*5. Google’s apps only work if an enterprise has no power users, employees are always online, enterprises haven’t built custom Office apps – doesn’t this equal a very small % of global information workers today? –On a feature comparison basis, it’s not surprising that Microsoft has a huge lead.

*6. Google apps don’t have essential document creation features like support for headers, footers, tables of content, footnotes, etc. Additionally, while customers can collaborate on basic docs without the above noted features, to collaborate on detailed docs, a company must implement a two part process – work together on the basic doc, save it to Word or Excel and then send via email for final edits. Yes they have a $50 price tag, but with the inefficiencies created by just this one cycle, how much do GAPE really cost – and can you afford the fidelity loss?

*7. Enterprise companies have to constantly think about government regulations and standards – while Google can store a lot of data for enterprises on Google servers, there is no easy to use, automated way for enterprises to regularly delete data, issue a legal hold for specific docs or bring copies into the corp. What happens if a company needs to respond to government regulations bodies? Google touts 99.9% uptime for their apps but what few people realize that promise is for Gmail only. Equally alarming is the definition Google has for “downtime” – ten consecutive minutes of downtime. What happens if throughout the day Google is down 7 minutes each hour? What does 7 minutes each hour for a full work day that cost an enterprise?

*8. In the world of business, it is always on and always connected. As such, having access to technical support 24/7 is essential. If a company deploys Google Apps and there is a technical issue at 8pm PST, Sorry. Google’s tech support is open M-F 1AM-6PM PST – are these the new hours of global business? And if a customer’s “designated administrator” is not available (a requirement) does business just stop?

*9. Google says that enterprise customers use only 10% of the features in today’s productivity applications which implies that EVERYONE needs the SAME 10% of the feature when in fact it is very clear that in each company there are specific roles people play that demands access to specific information – how does Google’s generic strategy address role specific needs?

*10. With Google apps in perpetual beta and Google controlling when and if they rollout specific features and functionality, customers have minimal if any control over the timing of product rollouts and features – how do 1) I know how to strategically plan and train and 2) get the features and functionality I have specifically requested? How much money does not knowing cost?

みなさん、辞書を片手に読んでみてください。

KDDIは2月26日、KDDI, Bharti Airtel Limited, Global Transit, Google, Pacnet, SingTelの6社共同で、日米間を結ぶ光海底ケーブル「Unity」の建設協定に締結したと発表した。

台湾の地震で寸断されたAPCN2とも接続するようで。

現在、日本国内のサーバにPINGを撃てば、おおむね50ms程度。これに対してアメリカ西海岸のサーバにPINGを撃てば150ms〜200ms程度だが、日本時間の午後7時過ぎあたりから急に遅くなる。

あと２年。

アメリカの格安サーバが日本語サポート要員を確保して黒船に乗ってやってくるような気がしてならない。

日本のサーバ屋でも、契約して蓋を開けたら海外サーバの再販だったなんてこともよくある話だし。世界一のブロードバンド大国なのに、ホスティングとなれば寒い話ばかり。

今回、Googleがグループの一員となっている以上、相応の帯域は確保できるんだろう。GMailのレスポンスが速くなるかな？？

でも、その前にKDDIさん。日本国内の我が家にも光ケーブル敷設して！！

この文言、見飽きたぜぃ

Xoops Cubeは、日本語処理に問題なんて全くない。およそ30年前にAT&Tが定めた標準化規格を徹底しているおかげである。

規格化された頃に提唱された文字セットがUnicode。

海外のサーバで日本語が使えるのはUnicodeのおかげ。EUC-JPなんて海外のサーバでは使えない。

Xoops CubeをUnicodeでインストールしようとしたが、やっぱり失敗してしまった。

アップロードに時間がかかるので、そう何度もテストする気がおこならい。。。

Xoops CubeもUTF-8標準対応にしないと、PC-9801と同じ運命が待っているような気がする。

言葉どおりでは無いのはわかってるけど、やっぱり安い

徘徊していたら、無料レンタルサーバのオーナーの募集ページがあった。

そこそこのフランチャイズ料が必要なんだろう、IPアドレスもちゃんとログに残ってるよな。。。でも覗いてみたい。

決済前にキャンセルすれば安全だしだからクリックしろ！と探求心旺盛な革新系の心が騒ぐ。

待て待て、そんな物を申し込んで、どうやってマーケティングして資金を回収するんだ？と保守派の心が説得している。

そんな葛藤の中で、思い切ってOrderのボタンをクリック。

なに？？これ？？？正味ドメインの維持費だけでした。

メールで届いたのは、サイトのURL, 管理用パネルのURL, アドミンのIDとパスワード。そして英語の説明がタラタラと。。。

早速、FTPで全部のドキュメントをダウンロードして、デザインのカスタマイズとキャッチコピーの和訳中です。

一応、自分でアカウント取得して、いろいろなCMSの日本語版がインストールできるかテストしたり、ホニャララを試してみたりしながら、コピーを考えてます。

リリースしたら、Bytehost系初の日本語サイトになると思います。

EnCircaというレジスタで.proドメインが$75.00で購入できます。他のレジストリだと$230程度ですが、ただ今Holiday Special!と題して安売り中。

2008/2/5からのセール。

ホリデーって長いんだなぁ。。。

微々たる金額でだが、一応サイト管理をまかされているところがある。ページの更新はそれぞれ行っているのだが、サイトマップまでは作れない。

月に一度程度、サイトマップを作成してアップロードしていたが、やっぱり面倒。

そこで、xms-sitemaps.comからUnlimited Sitemap Generator is a PHP scriptを購入した。19.9$。

Paypalで支払い、スクリプトをダウンロードしてみたら、ソースコードは全てbase64でエンコードしてあった。

そのままインストールしてみたら、html版のSitemapが文字化けしてしまう。charsetの設定が違っていた。

せっかくbase64でエンコードして暗号化したスクリプトを全てデコードして、書き換えてやった。

これは、規約違反なんだろうが、マルチバイト文字圏のユーザーとしては仕方ない。目を瞑ってもらうことにしよう。あえて連絡はしたりしないけれど。

来週でも、ページを日本語化してみよう。

でも、その前に、cronで動かす設定にしてるので、明日の朝に、ちゃんとsitemapが書き換わっているかチェックせねば。。。

ん〜、ついでにMicrosoft Live SearchとYahoo!にも登録しておこう。買収問題の行方によっては無駄な作業かもしれないけれど。。。

New version of Gmail soon available in 37 languages

Tonight, we’re starting to roll out the new version of Gmail in 37 languages.* As we first announced when we launched in English, this version, available for IE7 and Firefox 2, has an entirely new code base, which allows us to add new features more rapidly and share components with other Google applications (we now use the same rich text editor as Groups and Page Creator, and the contact manager can be seen in several Google apps). So if you were using English, you can now change your default language from the Settings menu to take advantage of a bunch of features that have recently launched in your preferred language, including:

Colored labels

Group chat

Rich emoticons

A new contact manager with a three-pane layout

A number of smaller features, such as new shortcut keys and the ability to bookmark individual emails with your browser

One side effect of this change is that it may disrupt some third-party Gmail extensions — unsupported scripts that directly modify Gmail’s code. If you don’t use them, you don’t need to worry about this. But if you do, we’ve contacted a number of the developers behind some popular extensions and many of them have updated their scripts, so make sure you’re using the latest version or check back with them if you encounter any issues.

*The newest version of Gmail is not yet available for Croatian, Icelandic, Hebrew or Arabic, but you can continue using the older version in these languages. The newest version also is not yet available for Google Apps for your domain.
